Happy Holidays Starkies,
If you’re just joining us here, then let us fill you in: We have shipped hundreds of boards to backers and customers worldwide. What happened was that some of them came back after a few rides not working properly. Instead of us building boards with the same problems, we decided to figure out what the issue was and then fix the hardware before kicking off manufacturing again. If you would like more technical information on our updated weight sensors then please check Update #30 and Update #31.
Durability Testing of Updated Weight Sensors
For the past two months we have spent over four weeks in China testing out the durability of the updated weight sensors. After many weeks of development and testing here is what we found.
The housing is functioning properly and the cables are not harmed. The waterproofing is holding up and is proving to be much more durable. This is great news and is what we set out to accomplish!
However, after 18 days of intense durability testing (max weight/max speed) two of the tested weight sensor assemblies came back with the strain gage sensor aluminum frame slightly bent. This does NOT mean that the board stopped working. However, real life usage in comparison to testing in and around the warehouse can be more abrasive. Given our experience with failing sensors, we decided to always plan for heavy real life usage and decided to add another component to prevent future complications.
Since the holidays are on the horizon, we figured we would allow a few more weeks for quality stress testing. Then we will go into production in January 2019 with the goal to ship out the next batch of boards before Chinese New Year in Feb 2019.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We greatly appreciate it. If you have any additional questions not addressed in this post please feel free to send an email to hello@starkmobility.com
Happy holidays and here’s to an amazing 2019!
